Help your child to become good at Math
Your support and love is all your child needs to be good at math

Every parent’s desire is for their child to be good at math but how can we help. We all have been through mathematics class and for most of us, it has never been a walk in the park. Years later after school, a few still have nightmares about mathematics. As we grow to have kids of our own, mathematics comes back as homework assistance. To those of us who had nightmares, these exercises haunt us.

Despite the challenges, nothing has more willpower on earth than a parent who wants the best for their children. At the end of this article, we believe you will find these tips useful. That being said the success of the child is usually a combination of effort on the part of the child, parent, and teachers. Even if you were never good at math, your support will be crucial in the success of your child.

  1. Build a passion for maths in your child. Rather than being pessimistic and apathetic towards the subject or your child. Ralph Waldo Emmerson once said – “Treat a man as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he could be, and he will become what he should be.” If you want the best for your child always be optimistic. This in turn creates a belief in your child that they can excel at mathematics. That is how you build passion in your child for mathematics.
  2. Cultivate the right attitude towards Math. Robin Sharma once said that – “Every master was once a beginner”, help your child to understand that failure is the path to mastering math. Your child must embrace their mistakes knowing that each correction they make draws them a step closer to being good at it.
  3. Instill a desire to ask questions. The Chinese have a proverb that says “He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.” Your child needs to know that there is nothing wrong with asking questions. They should ask the teacher without fear of peers whenever a concept is not clear.
  4. Teach them to be humble. There are some exercises we used to do and wondered their significance. The teachers knew that they were building blocks to future concepts. Your child needs to learn to do what the teacher wants. As a parent never talk down to teachers in front of your kids. By being proud towards the teacher what kind of lesson is that teaching your child. Parents must set the right example
  5. Buy the necessary equipment for your child. Not only will this boost confidence in the subject the child will also want to show gratitude for all the good you are doing for them.
  6. Take an interest in the assignments of your child. By doing this you are actually cooperating with the teacher. Find out if they have been given work and check if they have completed the work. If you don’t do this your child will think it’s the teacher’s responsibility for them to pass, which is a wrong impression. The reality is parents and teachers all play important roles in shaping the future of the child.
  7. Show that your care about your child by attending consultations. The goal is to discover from the teacher’s perspective how you can better help your child. For the most part, the highly successful kids have parents who are keen. When a parent shows keenness it rubs off on the child.

In conclusion, becoming good at math is a process that will take a lot of work on the part of the teachers, children, and parents. The good thing is that it’s something all of us can do as parents whether we passed math or not. All it takes is a keen desire to be available for our children and provide what they need. That by the way is what it means to be a parent. So, you already have what it takes to help your child become good at math. All the best!
